The Importance of Having a Mobile Strategy

According to Mary Meeker, a top analyst at Morgan Stanley, more people will soon be accessing the Internet via mobile devices than from regular computers. If you take a look at the above graph, you can see that this is likely to happen in the very near future. More and more people are choosing smartphones and tablet computers over basic mobile phones and desktop computers. What this means is that if your company has been putting off developing a mobile version of your website, you can’t afford to put it off for much longer.
However, it is not as simple as throwing your current site content into a mobile-friendly format. Mobile browsing is a little different than browsing from a computer. When people are coming to your site from a mobile device, chances are they are on the go and looking for quick answers. This is something you need to keep in mind when creating your mobile site. You need to take the key information and put it front and center. People don’t want to have to dig very far to get their answers.
Here are some key questions you should ask when creating your mobile site:
– Is the key information easy to find?
– Do you really need to include ALL of the content from the full site?
– Is there a call to action? Is it easy to spot?
– Have you also given the option to view the full site?
– Why are people visiting your mobile site? What are they looking for? Is it easy to find?
Your mobile site doesn’t need to be as comprehensive as your full site. Answering these questions will help you figure out what to include and what to pull out.
