Tesco’s Cool Use of QR Codes

I came across this video in an article by Jay Dunn and thought the concept was so cool and innovative that it just had to be shared. Here’s a little summary of the project:

In North America, we’re starting to see QR codes being used more often in advertising. While it’s really just starting to take hold here, QR codes have been extremely popular in Asia for a while now. So when Tesco, a large international grocery store chain, wanted to expand their presence in Korea without opening new stores, they turned to QR codes. What they managed to do is essentially put a full grocery store into a subway station by putting up photos of shelves full of products. Each product has a QR code, which the user scans to put into an online shopping cart. After completing the online checkout process, the goods are delivered to the customer’s home. Amazing, right?

Check out the video to see how it works and what kind of results they got out of the campaign. It’s pretty impressive. What do you think of Tesco’s experiment? Would it work in a North American market? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
